Body Contouring after Major Weight Loss

One of the most definitive ways to achieve significant weight loss is through bariatric surgery. However, when a patient achieves a dramatic weight loss, their skin and tissue may lack the natural elasticity to conform to the reduced body size. This may result in excessive loose skin and sagging tissue in certain areas of the body.

Patients have the option to choose cosmetic body contouring procedures to restore a tighter and more youthful looking skin following a weight loss surgery. Dedicated bariatric surgeon Dr. Wiljon Beltre provides weight loss procedures to patients in Orlando, Tampa, Maitland, Central Florida, and other neighborhoods and cities across this region.

Common Body Contouring Surgeries

Facelift

Excess skin in the face and neck area may cause sagging of the mid-face, jowly appearance, and conspicuous creases and wrinkles in the face and neck. These conditions can be corrected with a facelift and neck lift plastic surgery.

The surgeon will place discreet incisions in the hairline and behind the ears to subtly lift the sagging tissue through the incisions. Loose skin will be trimmed away and the remaining skin will then be re-draped over the face and pulled taut to create a smoother, youthful facial appearance.

Tummy Tuck and Body Lift

Tummy tuck surgery or abdominoplasty will involve the removal of loose skin in the upper and lower abdominal areas. The underlying sagging abdominal muscles may also be tightened if required. In some cases, a tummy tuck may be combined with a full lower body lift for more comprehensive outcomes.

A full lower body lift will address the sagging buttocks, waist, abdomen, hips and outer thighs in a single surgery. Incision patters will vary according to the patient’s unique requirements, and may include a circumferential incision around the body to eliminate excess skin and any remaining fat bulges.

Breast Lift

The incisions in case of breast lift surgery will be determined according to the degree of sagginess in the breasts. A single or a combination of incisions in a circular pattern around the areola may be placed, or a line extending from the areola to the breast crease, or a horizontal incision along the breast crease, may be used to perform breast lift. In some cases, breast implants may be combined with breast lift to create more effective outcomes.

Arm Lift

Loose skin in the upper arms can be excised through an incision in the underarm area that extends along the inside or the back of the upper arm. This will keep the scarring inconspicuous and the final scar will only become obvious when the arms are raised.

Thigh Lift

Enhancing contours of the outer thing will require an incision that goes from the groin around the hip. The surgeon will tighten the sagging tissue through the incisions to create a smoother, more youthful looking thigh.

Body contouring surgery procedures will involve a recovery period of about one to two weeks, depending on the extent of surgery performed. Bariatric surgeon Dr. Beltre receives patients from Orlando, Tampa, Maitland, Central Florida, and nearby areas for weight loss procedures.

Important Note: If the weight is regained, diabetes and other conditions could return.
