Treat Your Type 2 Diabetes!

METABOLIC SURGERY HAS BEEN SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN TO STOP TYPE 2 DIABETES: IN DAYS!*

Treating Type 2 Diabetes Weight Loss Surgery | Orlando Florida | TampaIf your physician has told you that you are “severely obese”, you know that means you are “too big”. But you may not know that obesity causes significant changes to your body’s metabolism and hormonal balance, and can lead to “metabolic syndrome”. Metabolic syndrome involves serious health conditions such as high cholesterol, high triglycerides, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. Until recently, the causes of metabolic syndrome were little understood, and treatment was limited to ineffective dieting and a lifetime of medications which could only control symptoms and offer temporary relief.

We now know there is a better way to address metabolic syndrome: with safe, cutting-edge, laparoscopic metabolic surgery such as sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass. These procedures have a profound effect on the body by increasing its metabolism and causing a robust release of powerful intestinal hormones. Releasing these hormones has the potential to send type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome into remission; in fact, most type 2 diabetes patients discover that they no longer require their medications within days of their metabolic procedure!**

Dr. Wiljon Beltre, the Board Certified and fellowship-trained lead bariatric surgeon at The Center for Metabolic and Obesity Surgery in Altamonte Springs, Florida, is excited to be able to offer these advanced surgical techniques as a way to address type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. As the first surgeon to perform sleeve gastrectomy in Central Florida, he is committed to helping you understand the critical role this new procedure and other metabolic surgery techniques such as gastric bypass can plan in accelerating your metabolism, enabling rapid and aggressive weight loss, and stopping type 2 diabetes.**

WHAT IS TYPE 2 DIABETES?

Diabetes is a disorder in which the body is unable to correctly process glucose (sugar), leading to elevated levels of glucose in your bloodstream (blood sugar). In a normally functioning metabolic system, the pancreas produces insulin to regulate glucose levels. Type 2 diabetes prevents the body from making sufficient insulin, and as the disease progresses, increases insulin resistance. Thus, maintaining and controlling safe glucose (blood sugar) levels usually requires a regime of pills such as Metformin, Glipizide or Amaryl, and ultimately may require regular injections of artificial insulin.

Type 2 diabetes can be treated by diet and exercise, because losing weight and fat around the waist can make type 2 diabetes go away. But losing weight on your own is difficult and usually unsuccessful. Your brain has a weight control switch that acts just like the thermostat in your house. When you set your thermostat at home for 75, the AC will turn on and off to keep the temperature at 75. The same thing happens in your body. Over time, your brain resets your body weight to a higher number, and no matter what you do to lose weight, your body fights back in order to bring you back to the set weight. In fact, sometimes when you stop dieting or exercising, you may regain more weight than you lost.

If left uncontrolled, diabetes can slowly rob you of your health. Combined with high cholesterol and high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes can cause hardening of the arteries which may lead to heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure. You may also suffer from swelling of the legs, painful joints, and fatigue. Type 2 diabetes can even affect sex and intimate relationships. Unfortunately, controlling diabetes involves strict dietary restrictions, constant monitoring of blood sugar levels, and a lifetime of medications, and for many people, maintaining the difficult monitoring and dietary restrictions is simply too difficult.

There are newer and better ways to treat your type 2 diabetes and obesity!

The development of advanced laparoscopic metabolic surgeries such as gastric bypass, and more recently sleeve gastrectomy, are increasingly recognized as safe, medically-viable treatment options for type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. At the most basic level, the procedures enable rapid and significant weight loss by create a smaller stomach which limits the amount of food you need to eat before you feel full, reducing your caloric intake and driving a focus on healthier foods. But this is only the tip of the iceberg! Metabolic surgeries—specifically gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy—also alter the way in which your body processes food, causing several incredible side effects:

  • Increases your metabolism: metabolic surgeries create hormonal changes that kick-start your metabolism, enabling your body to burn calories more efficiently so lifestyle changes like healthier diet and exercise have a greater impact.
  • Controls appetite: intestinal hormones such as Ghrelin play a major role in appetite control. Metabolic surgeries significantly reduce hunger by preventing the body from producing these hormones, so you eat less and healthier without “hunger dieting”.
  • Drives insulin production: The metabolic changes brought about by these advanced procedures enable your body to begin producing insulin naturally, allowing your body to once again process glucose correctly and naturally control your blood sugar levels, effectively reversing type 2 diabetes!

These hormonal changes can send your type 2 diabetes into remission within days of the surgery!** In fact, the results of advanced metabolic surgeries are so remarkable that Dr. Beltre tells his patients not to take their diabetic medications until they check their blood sugar. These procedures stop type 2 diabetes so quickly that they may not need these medications by the time they get home from the hospital! Advancements in modern laparoscopic techniques make these procedures safer and more effective than ever, and offer patients with type 2 diabetes a truly amazing opportunity to realize a lighter, healthier lifestyle with the energy and zest they need to do the things they once enjoyed!
