Risks of Obesity: What Does Being Overweight Affect?

Risks of Obesity

Obesity is affecting millions of people, and it is primarily caused by an overabundance of food and a lack of activity. Research reveals that approximately 30 percent of the world’s population is slightly overweight or morbidly obese. Modern humans rarely walk to work or school, and they often do not perform manual labor at a workplace or at home. Most individuals spend the majority of their days watching television, using a computer or sitting at a desk. However, they continue to eat large amounts of foods and beverages. Rather than eating a diet that is composed of small amounts of lean protein along with fresh vegetables and fruits, people are eating fatty foods such as pizza, hamburgers and ice cream. However, the risks of obesity can affect almost every aspect of your life.

What Are the Risks of Obesity?

At our center, we know that there are multiple detrimental problems that occur from obesity. If you are overweight, then it can affect you mentally and physically. When you are avoiding a special dietary plan, daily exercise or a surgical weight loss treatment, it can lead to an assortment of problems for your body that include:

• Pain in the weight-bearing joints such as the knees, ankles and hips
• Breathing disorders such as sleep apnea
• Gout that primarily affects the toes and feet
• Osteoarthritis from the damage to the joint’s cartilage
• Gallstones from gallbladder disease
• Blood sugar abnormalities leading to diabetes mellitus
• High cholesterol levels that lead to cardiovascular disease
• Increased incident of strokes
• A decrease in fertility
• High blood pressure that damages the arteries and blood vessels
• Complications during pregnancy and childbirth
• Liver disease from excessive fat consumption
• Kidney disease caused by other obesity-related conditions

You can have one of more health issues from having obesity, and when your weight is seriously out of control, you may stop exercising, and unfortunately, this leads to additional medical problems.

The Risks of Obesity Affect All Age Groups

If you are overweight, then you may feel tired or you might have brain fog. The conditions of fatigue and lack of mental clarity will keep you from being active. Our experts know that this leads to gaining more weight, making your health problems worse. Once an individual has gained a lot of weight, it is difficult to lose the pounds with daily exercise or a limited diet. Today, obesity is a serious health condition that is affecting all age groups, including children and teenagers. For additional information about the risks of obesity and how to lose weight, please speak with the professionals at Beltre Bariatrics: The Center for Metabolic & Obesity Surgery in Altamonte Springs, FL.
